Versions of Cyberpunk 2077 for consoles of the last generation left many players disappointed. Four days after the CD release, Projekt RED decided to apologize for the unsuccessful launch and offered gamers two options: wait for patches or hand over the game.

In a letter that the company posted on Twitter, the developers apologized for not showing the title on the basic X-ray consoles in time. According to them, they prevented the players from making a more informed purchase decision.

CD Projekt RED offered to fix the situation with patches. The first one was recently released on all platforms, and the second one will appear this week. The Poles also announced the release of big updates: the nearest one should be expected in January, and the next one in February. These two large-scale updates will have to cope with the most serious problems in Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles of the last generation. Even after them, the game will not reach the quality of its PC version or next, but its “quality will noticeably improve.”

For those who do not want to wait for updates on consoles, CD Projekt RED promised to refund the money for the purchased copy of the game. Owners of digital versions will be able to do this through the PSN or Xbox refund system. Gamers with boxed editions should first try to return a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 to a retail store, and in case of failure, contact the studio itself. However, it will be possible to talk with the developers only until December 21.

However, not all players warmly accepted the apologies of the Polish studio. For example, Svyatoslav Torik (a producer at Nexters) noted on his Twitter that it all looks like “part of the plan for the stock market game.” They say that the company’s management should have understood that Cyberpunk 2077 is unplayable on PS4 and Xbox One, but it deliberately did not postpone the release.

Torik cited Ubisoft as a positive example, which honestly refused to release Assassin’s Creed Unity on the seventh generation of consoles.

The release of Cyberpunk 2077 took place last Thursday, eight years after the first announcement. Despite the relatively good reception of the game from critics (90/100 points on Metacritic), the user rating of the title version for PS4 and Xbox One barely reaches 2.8 and 3.8 points out of 10, respectively.
