The creators of Magic Leap are firing people. A startup needs to seriously reduce costs, so 1,000 people will lose their positions in it. That’s half the state.
The exact number of people being fired was revealed by Bloomberg, citing an informed source. It also writes that the company is reorienting from b2c to the b2b segment. Magic Leap AR glasses will now be created with corporate clients in mind.
The restructuring at Magic Leap comes after reports that the company may soon be sold. AR-glasses are selling worse than their creators expected: in six months they managed to sell only 6 thousand pairs. Initially, the Magic Leap management planned to sell 1 million copies in the first year.
Nevertheless, now the company intends to continue working, including on Magic Leap 2 glasses.
