A version of the Unity 4.6.2 engine with 64-bit architecture support for iOS has appeared, according to the company’s official blog.

The new version of the engine uses IL2CPP technology. It will allow developers to create universal builds that support both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

The release of the engine with support for 64-bit architecture is timed to the deadline set by Apple. After February 1, 2015, all applications uploaded to the App Store “from scratch” must be made using the iOS 8 SDK and support 64-bit code.

Unity warns that a number of problems may arise when the new version of the engine is running. Developers whose applications are already in the App Store are advised to update them using Mono AoT on ARMv7 for now.

Recall that after June 1, updates to existing applications in the Apple store must be collected taking into account the above requirements.
