According to researchers, there are about 20 million unemployed men in the United States without a college degree, 75% of whom spend a significant part of their time playing video games.

Erik Hurst, an economist at the University of Chicago, suggests that a certain number of young and able-bodied male Americans are deliberately not looking for work in order to spend their time playing games.

Until recently, it was believed that unemployed Americans were whiling away their time watching TV or fleeing reality with the help of drugs. New statistics change the idea of their leisure time.

On average, a young unemployed American without a college degree in 2014 spent about two hours a day playing video games. 25% of respondents reported that they played at least 3 hours a day. And about 10% said they spend 6 hours a day or more on games..

In general, from 2000 to 2015, the employment rate for men aged 20 to 25 without a college—level education decreased by 10 percent – from 82% to 72%.
