In two months after the release, Marvel’s Avengers lost almost the entire audience. The number of simultaneous players has dropped by 96%, and the average online now rarely exceeds 700 people.Last weekend, the maximum online Marvel’s Avengers on Steam was 1,190 players.
For comparison, at the start in September, 29 thousand people played it at the same time (which is also a bit for a big-budget title).
Marvel’s Avengers was developed as a service game, but after the September release, the developers were unable to keep the audience. The project received mixed reviews from critics and players, and many compared its fate to Anthem, a loot shooter from BioWare.
Last week, publisher Square Enix also reported quarterly losses of the HD Games division of $62 million, which were largely caused by the failure of The Avengers.
According to journalist David Gibson, the game sold out only 60% of the planned, despite the fact that the project budget was in the range of $ 170-190 million.
