Hibernum together with the Japanese D3Publisher officially released three-in-a-row in the universe of KKI Magic: The Gathering.
Unlike Adventure Time Puzzle Quest, the novelty, which bears the boring name Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest in the App Store, turned out to be not a reskin of the Marvel Puzzle Quest card butler created by the authors of the original Puzzle Quest from Infinite Interactive, but an attempt to implement the mechanics of classic “Magic” within match-3.
As in the tabletop KKI, the player acts as a magician, summoning cards from the hand, which go only on the second move after the cast and have different abilities and roles. For example, there are cards that take the blow of other cards, there are berserkers attacking, first of all, enemy cards, and so on. The role of lands from Magic: The Gathering here, in fact, is performed by just three-in-a-row mechanics: he collected stones, received mana for the implementation of the top card in the deck from his hand.
Given that the game looks and plays harder than midcore Marvel Puzzle Quest, it’s unclear what the future holds for the new title. It is only clear that the Puzzle Quest brand company D3Publisher (or rather its American daughter D3 Go!) will continue to “milk” further.
