Versus Evil publisher refused to port a strategic game The Banner Saga for the PS Vita portable console after two years of development.
“Unfortunately, after spending a lot of time and resources, we decided to cancel the project and will not reschedule The Banner Saga on PS Vita. Considerable efforts were spent on its implementation by employees of Stoic, Versus Evil, Sony and other studios. We really wanted this goal to be achieved, but fate decided otherwise. We hope for your understanding,” reads an open message on the Versus Evil website.
The publishers said that initially the creators of the game from the indie studio Stoic tried to make a port on their own, but failed.
Then Sony offered Stoic assistance and attracted the Canadian studio Code Mystics to work.
The team of developers has been working on the project for more than a year, significantly exceeding the budget allocated for this purpose. They were unable to debug the game engine on the PS Vita, and due to constant performance problems, they decided to abandon the project.
Versus Evil noted that porting The Banner Saga on PS Vita is still possible, but it takes time and resources that the company currently does not have.
