A game from the creators of Crossy Road, Hipster Whale studio, has appeared in the App Store and Google Play. The project is called PAC-MAN 256. The Australian team developed it together with the authors of the original PAC-MAN, the Japanese company Namco.

Visually, the title resembles a prototype – adjusted for more modern (albeit also pixel-based) graphics. The difference from the original game of the 1980s is in the gameplay. Elements of an endless runner have been added to the arcade. The level behind the Pacman self-destructs, and if you stay in place for a long time, the character will crumble into pixels.

The controls are adapted to touch devices. The player sets the character’s direction using swipes.

The title is shareware, and monetization is based on the standard principle. An unsuccessful attempt to pass the level costs Pacman “life”. Then the player plays for free or for credits. In the first case, his account is reset to zero, and he passes the level without amplifiers. In the second case, the number of credits is limited. To restore them, you need to wait a certain time or buy loans for real money. There are two options here – to purchase a limited amount, spending a little less than a dollar, or to fork out for “endless” loans for an amount in the region of $ 6.

Hipster Whale studio earned $10 million in three months from video advertising in Crossy Road. In the new project, she also did not neglect this monetization scheme. The player has the opportunity to get credit by watching a relatively short (12-15 seconds) video.

Recall that the release of the mobile project about Pacman is timed to the anniversary of the original game. It was released in Japan 35 years ago – in 1980.
