Nintendo’s Super Mario Run mobile game has surpassed the milestone of 150 million downloads 7 months after its release.
The data was confirmed by Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima at the last Q&A session for the company’s shareholders. He noted that less than 10% of all downloads bought the game.
“It may be related to the price or payment methods. Therefore, in the future we will adopt not only a single pricing policy, but also other methods that will allow more consumers to join the game,” Kimishima said,
He recalled that another Nintendo mobile title, the Fire Emblem Hero role-playing strategy earned more than Super Mario Run, 10 times inferior to it in terms of the number of downloads.
The free-play Fire Emblem Hero is successfully monetized using in-game transactions, while Super Mario Run is distributed using the freemium model, when players can download the game and complete several levels for free, after which they are offered to buy the full version.
