Specializing in the publication of wargames, Slitherine announced another high-profile purchase. The company has acquired a full package of rights to the iconic turn-based strategy Master of Magic.

Master of Magic
Slitherine announced this today, August 5, on its official forum.

The rights were acquired from Atari. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed. However, it is unlikely that we are talking about a large amount.

The fact is that Master of Magic was published 25 years ago, in September 1994. Despite the high popularity in the niche of turn-based fantasy strategies, the project has not had a sequel.

In this regard, her sister Master of Orion was more fortunate. The sci-fi 4x strategy developed by the same Simtex has received three sequels. The latter was released to the market in 2016 by the tank giant Wargaming.

Although Master of Magic does not have numbered parts, she has a lot of ideological followers. These usually include the Age of Wonders, Endless Legend, Warlock, Eador and others series.

The description of the Master of Magic gameplay can be reduced to the following definition: Civilization in a fantasy setting, where the player is also engaged in the study of magic and the development of heroes.

What Slitherine is going to do with the series is still unclear. Now the publisher is preparing to revive another middle-aged fantasy series. The release of the Fantasy General II wargame is planned for the current year. The first and only “General” was released in 1996.
