Sam & Max: Save the World remaster was released yesterday. The updated version was handled by the Skunkape studio, consisting of the developers of the original game. On this occasion, we gathered the opinions of critics about whether the team managed to breathe new life into the classic quest.About the game
The original Sam & Max: Save the World is a sequel to the quest Sam & Max Hit the Road, which was released in 1993.
The game was originally created by Lucas Arts, but in 2004 the company canceled the development.
In 2006, a version of Save the World by Telltale Games was released, which consisted of six episodes. The project was warmly received by the press and players and eventually became one of the company’s business cards.
Skunkape studio, founded by Dan Connors and consisting of former Telltale employees, worked on the remaster. Now the company owns the rights to the franchise and plans to release the rest of the “seasons” in the future.
The remaster of Save the World was released for PC and Nintendo Switch, and its average score on Metacritic was 84 points.
Media opinionsAlmost all critics praise the work done to update Sam & Max.
Not only the graphics were changed, but also the sound — the developers from Skunkape invited the composer of the original game, who also added several new compositions to the remaster.
All the audio compression problems present in the original 2006 are solved in the Skunkpae version. This cartoon universe now seems much more alive thanks to improved sound effects and songs.— Shacknews
4K resolution, 60+ frames per second, smooth animation, beautiful textures, gamepad support, as well as many bug fixes are just the tip of the iceberg”— GamingTrend
“A simple visual style is broken by an ugly art design. Apart from Sam and Max, all the other characters look ugly, and the environment, even if filled with visual gags, is not interesting to explore.”— Windows Central
If we do not talk about technical aspects, journalists scold puzzles that seem too simple to them.
“Puzzles have not aged as gracefully as local humor. In the first three episodes, the puzzles are much simpler than you might imagine, although in the last two the challenge increases. Obviously, the focus was on jokes, and that in itself is not a bad thing. It’s a fun game”— GameWatcher
“Skunkape did a fantastic job of refining everything that needed to be updated, while leaving the spirit of the original game intact. For fans of the genre and for everyone who likes absurd and brusque humor, this is a must-have purchase. This game can cause you to have fits of laughter”— Finger Guns
