Rovio has released a new Angry Birds in Canada

Last December, one of the most famous mobile games turned five years old. During this time, the market has changed dramatically. Today, smartphone games have completely different standards, different methods of monetization, approaches to promotion, not to mention graphics and mechanics.

Against this background, the exit (or rather, the soft launch) of a full-fledged continuation is a natural step. Although, let’s be honest, Rovio did not dare to put a full-fledged second digit in the name of the novelty, so we are now talking not about Angry Birds 2, as one might think, but about Angry Birds: Under Pigstruction.

The novelty is an attempt to rethink the classic project within the framework of modernity so as not to scare away the existing audience.

From the original, the game got the classic gameplay, in which it is necessary to launch birds at green pigs who stole feathered eggs for their misfortune.

As for the innovations, of the most significant:

• introduction of energy (as far as we understood, hearts should be removed for losing);
• introduction of the arena (we didn’t have time to reach level 50 when it opens, but most likely we are talking about some type of PvP);
• replacing bird figures with their cards (the trick is that you choose which bird to use now);
• the appearance of bosses (especially powerful pigs that are difficult to kill);
• the appearance of spells (cards that seriously facilitate the passage);
• new graphics (the game is based on Unity).

I singled out the graphics separately for a reason. The project is very visually saturated: the grass is waving, zeppelins are flying in the background, birds blink on the cards, pigs squeal if you pull a slingshot. All this gives the impression of a full-fledged cartoon. The problem is that all this beauty is demanding of iron. And, for example, on the iPad 3, it significantly slows down. The game in this regard is not at all democratic .

Five years difference
It is still unclear when the world release will take place.

Considering that, for example, the Angry Birds Stella POP! bubble, which we wrote about back in December 2014, has not yet been launched to the world, we definitely should not wait for the imminent release of Under Pigstruction.
