A Reuters source reports that PUBG Mobile has little chance of returning to India. Even revoking the rights to publish the game in the region from Tencent is unlikely to help lift the ban.The South Korean company PUBG Corporation was forced to revoke the license to publish the game in India from Tencent after 118 Chinese applications were blocked in the country in early September amid a border conflict.

The developer hoped that this would change the position of the authorities regarding the game.

However, now India claims that the blocking was influenced not only by PUBG Corporation’s ties with Tencent, but also by the brutality of the game itself. That is why the government of the country can remain adamant on this issue.

“The violent nature of the game has caused many complaints from various authorities. The transfer of ownership will not change the situation, an anonymous source told Reuters.

A representative of PUBG Corporation said that the company is ready to go to any cooperation with India to resolve the problem. The company also entered into negotiations on the publication of PUBG Mobile with the local company Jio Platforms, which belongs to the largest Indian holding company Reliance Industries.

Thus PUBG Corporation hopes to circumvent the ban of battle royale in the region. However, the representative of the company noted that the negotiations have not yet brought results. Reliance does not comment on the situation in any way.

The official reason for blocking PUBG Mobile and other Chinese apps in India is “damaging the sovereignty and integrity” of the country. However, in fact, this is a method of pressure on China due to the aggravation of the situation on the north-eastern border in the Himalayas.

Even if negotiations with Jio fail, PUBG Corporation will surely continue to look for new ways to bring its game back to India. A quarter of all PUBG Mobile downloads were in this region: the South Korean company does not want to lose an important market for itself.
