On April 12, a reissue of the cult RPG by Chris Avellone was released on Steam, GOG, as well as on the App Store and Google Play platforms.

What?

HD is a reissue of the philosophical role-playing game created by Black Isle Studios on Infinity Engine in 1999. One of those games, nostalgia for which today gives birth to new role–playing hits – Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny and Tides of Numenera.

How?

Just like 18 years ago, we read a lot, explore locations, remember the second edition of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons role–playing system, and in battles that are not so numerous compared to Baldur’s Gate, we do not forget about the pause.

Why pay attention?

Planescape: Torment is one of the few games claiming to be a philosophical statement expressed in the project in the fate of the hero.

The setting of the story – the multiverse of the Plenscape – is also not standard. It’s not just about what it looks like and who inhabits it. It functions according to not the most obvious principles, one of which, for example, is interpreted as follows: wherever a person (subject) is, there is the center of the universe.

But, of course, this does not exhaust the advantages of the plot, which plays the first fiddle in the cult status of the game. Planescape: Torment begins in the morgue, the main character is immortal, among the brightest companions is a flying skull ready to hit on every skirt.

What should I be ready for?

The game is not a remake or remaster, but an HD version of the game made by Overhaul Games and Beamdog, which have been re-releasing games created in the 90s on the Infinity Engine since 2012.

On the one hand, they know the engine perfectly well and consistently support their products, on the other hand, they are sloppy. The same UI of the new version of Planescape: Torment looks ambivalent: next to the redrawn neat buttons hang original animated portraits that are pixelated on large screens.

By the way, it’s cheaper to buy a game on the desktop. The mobile iOS version will cost 749 rubles, on Google they ask for 590 rubles for the game, and on Steam and GOG it costs 419 rubles each.
