Mobile hit Pokémon GO studio Niantic has passed the milestone of 800 million downloads. This was announced by the head of The Pokémon Company publishing house Tsunekazu Ishihara at a press conference in Tokyo.
It took Pokémon GO a little over a year to get the last 50 million downloads.
To attract more players, the creators of Pokémon GO have announced a series of events that will take place in the USA, Germany and Japan during this summer. On the territory of these countries, special zones will be organized in which special events will take place.
It is also planned to keep gamers interested in Pokémon GO with the help of new games of the Let’s Go franchise, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, which will be released on the Nintendo Switch in November this year. Players will be able to transfer Pokemon caught on a mobile device to a title on Switch.
Over the two years of its existence, Pokémon GO has become one of the most successful mobile games and a real cultural phenomenon. According to the Sensor Tower analytical platform, the Niantic game earned $1 billion in just 7 months, that is faster than any other mobile application in history.

Note that Pokémon GO has not yet been officially published in Russia.
However, according to Bloomberg, immediately after the release of the game in July 2016, only in Moscow and the Moscow region, the number of Pokemon catchers exceeded 1.3 million people.
