Next week, Russian Pixonic opens a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The team plans to raise funds for a new game for HTC Vive and Oculus – War Robots VR.

The project under development is a multiplayer PvP shooter in the universe of the mobile blockbuster War Robots. First of all, it is designed to play with VR devices, but it will be possible to conduct matches in it without them.

Unlike the experimental project War Robots VR: The Skirmish, which Pixonic released on Steam in August this year, the novelty is a full–fledged large product with several game modes (there will be both team battles and dezmatch) and a set of machines that differ from each other.

The developers plan to raise at least $130 thousand on Kickstarter. The release of the game, which is being created by an internal Pixonic studio specially formed for the project, consisting of ten people, is scheduled for spring 2018.

Mobile War Robots is one of the most commercially successful Russian game franchises. Even before the purchase of its developer by the corporation Mail.Ru Group for $30 million, the game’s user base grew by more than 300% per year. The monthly profit of the project in April 2017 was $3.5 million. Now this figure may be much higher.

It is clear that the company can afford to develop a large project independently. She doesn’t have to resort to crowdfunding. But her exit from War Robots VR on Kickstarter is not due to financial reasons.

“After The Skirmish, released as an experiment by us as an independent team, we are confident that we can make the transition to [developing] a full-fledged game for large platforms. To get the green light and release War Robots VR, our team needs to prove that projects like ours are what people really want to see published,” the developers write.

More details about the project will be known at the time of the campaign launch.
