Nintendo, together with GungHo Online Entertainment, will release a special edition of the Puzzle & Dragons game for its 3DS consoles featuring characters from the Super Mario Bros. franchise.
The game mechanics of the title called Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros does not differ from the original Puzzle & Dragons. Mario brothers, flying turtles and other recognizable characters of the popular Nintendo franchise will take the place of the main characters.
For Nintendo, the release of the game is an obvious attempt to attract the vast mobile audience of Puzzle & Dragons, while not releasing mobile projects as such. In addition, this is part of the company’s new policy on active licensing of characters, which was announced by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in May last year.
In Japan, the game will be released on April 29, 2015. It is expected that it will cost 4,000 yen – without additional in-game payments.
Recall that Nintendo already has one joint project on the super-popular mobile hit GungHo – the game Puzzle & Dragons Z, which was released on 3DS back in 2013.
