One of the main releases of 2013 – the sad Nordic platformer Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons from Starbreeze Studios – will appear on iOS, Android and Windows Phone for Catholic Christmas.
This was announced last night by the company 505 Games, which published the original project and now has full rights to the game.
Recall, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons told the story of two brothers who go in search of a cure for their father through the lands of trolls and giants. The project was very poignant, emotionally intense.
Its main feature – the need to control two brothers simultaneously from two sticks – was plot-driven.
Spoiler alertAt the end of the game, the eldest of the brothers dies.
Management becomes standard for games of this kind, but in the last scene, when the younger brother does not have enough strength to swim across the river (the final obstacle on the way to saving his father), he hears the voice of his brother, who encourages him. And in order to cross the river, the player must work with both sticks again. At this moment, the story told by the Swedish developers reaches catharsis and gives a very strong and rare feeling of empathy for games.
How convenient it will be to play Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons from touch devices, given that the project could not be called comfortable to control with a gamepad, is a big question. On the other hand, there are only two dynamic moments for the whole game, so perhaps management will not be a problem.
