Wanting to attract a young audience to games in the genre of “slots”, the American company Blue Crystal Labs has published a gambling game in which the winnings depend on the user’s skills.
The project is called Simon Slots. According to VentureBeat, it combines two classic mechanics: slots and the game “Simon” (this is in which you need to remember in what sequence the light bulbs on a colored disk are lit).
In Simon Slots, the player must memorize sounds and flashing pictures while the drum is spinning, and then, after the drum stops, tap on the symbols on the screen in the correct order. Accordingly, the winnings are affected not only by luck, but also by the user’s skills.
The founder of Blue Crystal Labs, Jesse Janosov, explains this approach with the following problem. Young players today are not interested in slots, they are not interested in just pressing the SPIN button. In fact, slots have nowhere to take a new audience today, it milks the one that it already has. And these are mainly elderly people.
It seems to Jesa that their approach will help slots attract a new — young — audience to the genre.
At the moment, the company has already raised $1.5 million. Investors include Mark Pincus, CEO of Zynga.
It is currently in the “soft launch” stage.
