BioWare has decided to temporarily suspend work on the Mass Effect role-playing series, Kotaku reports, citing sources close to the company.

The developer of Mass Effect, BioWare Montreal studio, will be reduced to a support unit.

Last month, a number of BioWare Montreal employees were transferred to EA Motive studio to work on Star Wars Battlefront II.

The remaining BioWare Montreal employees will support other BioWare games, including a new franchise codenamed Dylan.

It is unlikely that BioWare will turn out to be from the successful Mass Effect series.

Earlier this week, Electronic Arts President Andrew Wilson told investors that EA “we are very pleased with how BioWare is handling Mass Effect, and expect a lot from this franchise in the future.”
