The Pixel Art Academy campaign, a textbook on drawing pixel art in the form of an online adventure game, has been launched on Kickstarter.

Анонсирован интерактивный учебник по пиксель-арту

The project was launched by Slovenian artist Matej Jan, founder and host of the Retronator blog, also dedicated to pixel art.

The game, which Matei, according to him, is going to finish regardless of the results of the campaign (she is his thesis at Stanford), will be played as a classic quest of the late 80s – early 90s: the user will walk around locations, controlling a character – a student of the art academy – either using text commands, or using the mouse.

Those NPCs that the player will meet on his way will give quests-tasks that boil down to the need to watch a video / read an article, and then, using the knowledge gained, draw something.

It is assumed that Pixel Art Academy will be an open-world game. The tutorial will give only basic concepts about pixel art, and then the player will have to perform sidequests to gain new knowledge.

The player in the project will have his own studio in which his works will be uploaded. The player will also be able to visit other users’ rooms.

The goal of the Kickstarter campaign was successfully overcome on the first day – $1000. Such a low amount is explained by Matei’s desire to be able to do the project full-time after graduation. How many, as they say, will be typed, so much will be engaged in them “to the fullest”. Now the game has gained more than $ 7 thousand and it has 23 more days of the campaign.
