Frogmind Games has approached the issue of retention retention in an interesting way. The studio plans to release a map editor for its Badland arcade.
As is well known, maintaining a certain level of retention largely depends on how often the game is updated. Publishing new content also affects re-engagement. The more often updates are released, the better.
The problem is that independent teams, as a rule, cannot afford it. The constant support of an already released game for a studio consisting of, at best, 10 employees often does not just slow down, but simply does not allow you to engage in a new project.
It would seem that what is the problem, because you can hire new employees. But earnings from a small project can hardly be enough for an indie team to maintain itself. It often happens that an independent studio is not interested in growth, wants to stay in its usual format.
Whatever the reason, the problem remains. And Frogmind Games presented one of its possible solutions. The studio has announced a map editor, which is a polished version of the original tool that developers used when creating levels to the original Badland.
In the editor, you can either change or study existing levels, or create new ones from scratch. Then the constructed level can be published for public viewing. However, at the beginning you will have to go through it yourself (hello, King of Thieves). After the level is published, other players will be able to give him their ratings.
The company does not intend to limit itself to the release of the editor. Every week Frogmind Games plans to choose the best level and add it to the official game distribution. It will be featured for a whole week in the main menu of the game.
How such an innovation will affect the position of the game in the tops – we will find out soon, but in the meantime, you can sign up for the beta test of the editor on iOS. The Android version is also in the plans.
We, in turn, note that for a paid game released in 2013, Badland shows excellent performance in the App Store. For example, in the Russian paid games chart on August 31, 2015, the project was on the 35th position.
