Unity Technologies has launched a certification program for Unity developers. As part of the program, the authors of the engine will conduct exams among developers and make assessments based on its results.
Today it is very difficult to talk about the level of professionalism in the modern industry. There is no corresponding education system. Many specialists, if we talk about their applied knowledge, are essentially self-taught.
This imposes certain problems both on the specialists themselves, who often have no idea what standards they should meet, and on employers who have to spend time and resources on creating test tasks and their further verification.
The introduction of developer certification, the launch of which Unity announced, should partially solve these problems. Certification will not only allow developers to understand their level of professionalism within a specific toolkit, but will also reduce the costs of companies to find employees. The latter will be enough in the requirements to set one or another score based on the results of the Unity Certified Developer Exam.
Unity exams are currently held as part of numerous events around the world. To participate in the exam, the developer will need to come to a specific event and complete the assigned tasks. Immediately after the exam, the developer will receive information about the points scored.
To date, Unity has announced the launch of the first level of the program — Unity Certified Developer, which tests knowledge about the development package itself (how to work with animation, sound, interface, representation of game genres, and so on). In the future, the company plans to launch other levels, including programming and drawing.
Along with the announcement of certification, Unity announced the imminent launch of training programs on the engine. Training materials, as well as the exam, will be available on a paid basis. Familiarity with the training materials is not mandatory for certification.
