The Unity team wants it to be easier for developers to work with the engine. This is hinted at by the Unity Hub release. The tool allows you to select the version of the engine to work with.

The developers themselves say that the task of Unity Hub is “to simplify the moments associated with the launch of the engine.”

Unity Hub is a separate application. At startup, it allows:

  • see which versions of Unity are delivered;
  • which are available for download;
  • allows you to configure which version of the engine is preferred for operation.

You can choose your own set of components for each version of the editor. Plus, when launching a new project, you can choose the desired template. There are five options so far:

  • 2D;
  • 3D;
  • High Definition;
  • Lightweight;
  • Lightweight VR.

The application is still in beta status. You can try it on Windows and Mac at this link.
