Unity’s main competitor has a fresh update. Already the eleventh in a row. There are few mobile innovations, mostly bugs have been cleaned.
In Unreal Engine 4.11, developers paid special attention to improving performance. The authors of the engine do not hide that this is due to the upcoming release of their own game – Paragon. By optimizing the code, Epic Games achieved a project performance of 60 frames on PlayStation 4.
Special attention was also paid to shading (calculation of illumination of various surfaces). If you are making a game for “big” platforms with realistic human characters on the engine, this should please you, since the new shading received hair, eyes, skin and textures for clothes.
Support for capsule shadows (very soft indirect shadows), depth of field for shadows, a more efficient stereo render for VR and much more has also been added.
By the way, it’s decent for those updates that relate to mobile projects, but these are, as it should be, minor improvements or fixes.
In total, Unreal Engine 4.11 contains 92 improvements.
