Japanese studio Silicon Studio has released its own game engine Xenko Game Engine.

Xenko is an open source platform using C#. You can use it to create games for mobile devices, consoles, PC and VR systems.

Beta testing of the engine lasted from October 2014.

According to the creators of Xenko Game Engine, their platform offers flexible solutions for rendering the game, and the source code is available on GitHub. This means that developers will be able to identify and fix problems faster.

3 versions of Xenko will be available to users.

  • Xenko Personal – distributed for free, has limited functionality and is intended for students, single developers and personal use.
  • Xenko Pro is designed for small studios and costs $75 per month per user.
  • Xenko Pro Plus is aimed at larger companies, the subscription fee is $150 per month per user.

There is also a version of Xenko Custom designed to work on large-scale or unusual projects.

Until July 31, everyone can download the Pro version of the engine for free from the developer’s website.

Silicon Studio expects its platform to become a competitor to Unity and Unreal Engine.
