“We’re doing Xbox Live for mobile or what GameCenter and Google Play were supposed to be for players and game developers,” Nextpeer CEO Shai Magzimof told develop.
We have already written about Nextpeer more than once. That’s just what this service is all the same, it was not completely clear. Now there is a little more information about the multiplayer platform, so Shai’s loud statement is a good reason to look at the service again.
To put it in essence, the guys have developed a tool that allows you to arrange network multiplayer between friends in mobile titles.
Ideally, it looks like this: the user launches the game, presses the “play with friends” button and selects a friend with whom he wants to play now, for example, in some mobile network shooter. A friend receives a notification from one of the social networks through which he is logged in (both standard Facebook and Twitter are supported, and, for example, LINE). A friend clicks on the invitation, the game begins.
Plus, the platform supports asynchronous and hybrid multiplayer (the latter is a competition with a “ghost” or a bot that emulates the behavior of a particular player).
It is assumed that the implementation of the SDK of the service will allow developers not to cut multiplayer, social “binding” and leaderboards on their own.
The problem is that such a platform, which also positions itself as a cross-advertising grid and a full-fledged social network with a chat (to play multiplayer, the user will need to register in it), relying on other social networks, is, to put it mildly, a heavy construction. And now she will constantly have to work in parallel with the game.
It also raises questions about how many players will be able to participate in a local game and what kind of games can it be? So far, the authors of the service demonstrate only simple match-3 one-on-one battles.
You can try the services for free. Only it will be impossible to customize anything in it, and the game will then have to turn Nextpeer ads. Without advertising, using the service will cost $199 per month. But this is only if the MAU of the project is less than 100 thousand. Then we will talk about individual payment.
