Marmalade

Yesterday it became known that the Marmalade service, which allows developers to port games from platform to platform without changing the source code, has become free to use.

However, there were no restrictions. In the free version, access to native extensions is restricted and debugging cannot be performed directly on a mobile device. And, yes, operational support should be forgotten altogether. In the picture below you can see the difference between the versions. ScreenShot056Such a step on the part of Marmalade Technologies is associated with two points:

  • With the general trend of lowering the cost of game development tools (even students can afford to develop games based on Unity, Unreal and CryEngine today);
  • With the refusal of many developers to create their own engine, using ready-made cross-platform solutions, it makes no sense for Marmalade to exist at all.
