At Gamescom, Game Insight introduced a new game – Dragon Warlords. We contacted the project manager Alexander Shmyrov, who spoke about the mechanics, the game cycle and the monetization of the project.
Alexander ShmyrovHi!
A few days ago, the announcement of a spin-off to Dragon Eternity — Dragon Warlords took place. Judging by the first video, only the setting remains of the original game. Our Western colleagues compare the project with MOBA, it reminds us of RoyalRevolt. But in reality, what will the gameplay look like? Please tell us about the mechanics of the game.Hi!
“Dragon Towers” is our version of the Tug of War genre. We were inspired by games such as Samurai vs Zombies, League of War, Castle Conflict, Royal Revolt and even some maps from the StarCraft 2 game library.
It turned out to be a dynamic game with an emphasis on pure tactics: we removed everything that could distract the player from the current situation on the battlefield. The battle system in the game “Dragon Towers” is a war of generals. Each level we have is not a bobsleigh track on which the player rushes, but a battlefield on which two tactics and two decks collide. To this we have added a strong PvE campaign, including a variety of races, many game zones and several dozen different combat units, attacks on castles in PvP mode and a meta-game.
The game will take place on the continent of Tarth of the world of Adan. The audience of “Dragons of Eternity” has already crossed the mark of 10 million people, and we believe that our players will be interested to learn more about the history of the world of their game, to see with their own eyes the events that took place on Tarte 1000 years before the beginning of the plot of “Dragons of Eternity”.
Can you share the game cycle in the project (for example, the game cycle of most battlers, this is a bunch of dungeons – a powerful deck. Energy is spent to get into the dungeon, but after its passage, the player receives gold, experience, cards, access to new dungeons, for the passage of which a new deck is needed, improving for gold and for cards)?Your guess about Buttler is generally correct.
The gameplay is divided into two parts – this is the battlefield itself and the player’s castle, in which the entire meta-game takes place. These are gaining access to new troops and spells, improving squads, and arranging the castle’s defenses.
The cycle looks something like this: the player spends resources on hiring troops, and then goes into battle with them. His campaign may end successfully: in this case, the player will rob the enemy’s castle and return with additional resources. If the enemy’s castle has survived, you will have to re-accumulate the resources spent on hiring units and restore the lost PvP rating.
Returning from the battle to the castle, the player collects the resources produced during the battle, improves the available troops, reformulates his hand (that is, changes the list of units and spells available for use on the battlefield) and attacks the enemy again.
It is clear that the project will be distributed according to the free-to-play model, but what aspect of the game will be monetized, will it have collections, stamina, or do you plan to sell players something else? And if so, what exactly? The player will be able to spend real money on additional attack and support spells, acceleration of various processes in the castle — such as building buildings or improving troops, as well as temporary protection from attacks by other players.
And the last question: when to wait for DragonWarlords on iOS and Android? By the way, are you planning to transfer it to WindowsPhone? The PTA of the game on Android will be held very soon; the release of the game on this platform is planned in the fall.
Later we will release versions for other operating systems as well. As we have already said, cross—platform is very important to us – and we will definitely make sure that users can play on any device convenient for them, saving their progress when launching the Dragon Towers game on other platforms.
Thanks for the interview!
