The British visual effects studio IKinema offers to democratize animation scripting as much as possible. Their service uses natural language to animate three-dimensional scenes.
The project is named INTiMATE. It is still in development, but already, as far as can be understood from the video below, it is quite functional. The user, represented by the developer, can use simple commands like “run”, “jump” or “turn around” to set the character a chain of actions.
IKinema sees its task in creating an interface for those who are not professionally engaged in animation, but, thanks to INTiMATE, will be able to easily cope with this matter.
The company notes that they do not consider their service a threat to a professional animator, since the animations themselves that INTiMATE uses will have to be created by someone.
In the future, IKinema plans to develop a tool that will be able to work directly with scripts. The director of the video or movie will upload the text with commands in natural language, and the service will generate a scene based on it. But this is in the long term.
The first version of INTiMATE as a commercial product will appear on the market next year.
