In preparation for the release of CryEngine 5.2, Crytek has updated the engine’s website. Its most significant innovation is the appearance of a detailed schedule for the appearance of new features.
Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture
So far, only CryEngine 5.2 and CryEngine 5.3 are on the schedule. The release of the first update is scheduled for mid-August, the second – mid-October. You can get acquainted with what will appear in them here.
The developers also stated that they have significantly improved the process of starting work with the engine and launched a new forum. Earlier this month, they also stated that they had redesigned the launcher and simplified the work of creating new projects in the package.
It seems that Crytek is now actively working on lowering the entry threshold into the engine, which remains more difficult to work with today than Unreal 4 and Unity. But it is completely free, and its source code is publicly available on GitHub.
By the way, like Epic Games, Crytek has a program to support promising projects. Once every three months, the company pays cash grants to the most impressive projects. However, exactly how much is not specified. The total amount of the fund is more than $1 million.
