The new Bioware project, the role—playing game Mass Effect: Andromeda, was criticized immediately after its release for poor animation and other errors. As it turned out, the development of the blockbuster was accompanied by problems in the Bioware Montreal team.

A former employee of the Canadian BioWare spoke about the negative work in the Montreal branch of the company on the recruiting resource Glassdoor.

The record on Glassdoor was discovered by our colleagues from Shazoo.

The author of the review has worked as a full-time special effects artist (VFX artist) for more than 5 years. According to him, during this time, 13 leading employees of the Mass Effect: Andromeda development team have left Bioware Montreal. For comparison, during the same time, only three employees left the Bioware Edmonton branch team.

He also complained about the constant conflicts between departments and the repressive policy of the studio administration, which turns the work of employees who disagree with its actions into a bureaucratic hell.

“Revenge and harassment are the sad reality of working here. If you start asking uncomfortable questions, you will be branded as a troublemaker, and they will treat you accordingly,” said a former Bioware employee.

Finally, Bioware employees are not allowed to sit around in the dining room. 30 minutes a day are allocated for lunch, during which you need to have time to eat and return to the keyboard.

In addition to the negative, he highlighted the good sides of the work — talented colleagues, a convenient office and participation in the creation of an AAA-class game. Nevertheless, Bioware as an employer deserved only 1 point out of 5 in the review.
