Starbreeze shared its financial results for the fourth quarter and the whole of 2021. The company is still not making a profit, but its losses are gradually decreasing. She also announced that the revenue of the PAYDAY shooter series reached the billion Swedish kronor mark ($107.3 million) — it took 10 years.
PAYDAY 2The main figures for the fourth quarter
- Net sales amounted to 31.05 million Swedish kronor ($3.34 million) — a drop of 4.6% year-on-year.
- 83.4% of sales were on PC. On this platform, Starbreeze earned 25.9 million Swedish kronor ($2.78 million) — an increase of 5.7% compared to last year.
- On consoles, sales amounted to 4.4 million Swedish kronor ($472 thousand), which is 37% less than in 2020. The decline in revenue is most likely due to the fact that Starbreeze has stopped releasing updates for the console versions of PAYDAY.
- But EBITDA immediately increased by 193% to 15.6 million Swedish crowns ($ 1.68 million).
- The pre-tax loss for the quarter was 12.9 million Swedish kronor ($1.4 million). This is 20% less than in 2020.
- Quarterly sales of the PAYDAY series alone provided Starbreeze with 30.2 million Swedish kronor ($3.2 million). However, we note that last year these games sold better — then the series brought the company 30.7 million Swedish kronor ($ 3.3 million).
- During the quarter, the average MAU PAYDAY 2 was 679 thousand people.
The main figures for the whole year
- Annual sales of Starbreeze amounted to 125.7 million Swedish kronor ($13.5 million) — an increase of 6.5% compared to last year. Most of the amount fell on PC -102.5 million ($11 million).
- But the annual EBITDA fell seriously — by 87.2% to 6.2 million Swedish crowns ($ 672 thousand).
- At the same time, the company’s annual pre-tax loss decreased. If in 2020 it was 130.4 million Swedish crowns ($14 million), then in 2021 it was 105.2 million Swedish crowns ($11.3 million).
- The annual revenue from sales of the PAYDAY series reached 119.8 million Swedish kronor ($12.8 million). Growth by 7.4% in annual terms.
- In just 10 years since the release of the first PAYDAY, the series has earned 1 billion Swedish kronor ($107.3 million).
- In 2021, MAU PAYDAY 2 averaged 788 thousand people. The largest number of monthly active users was at the end of summer. Then the game’s MAU exceeded 1.2 million people.
In its report, Starbreeze did not disclose in detail how things are with PAYDAY 3. She noted only that the development of the shooter is going according to plan. Recall that last March, the company announced that Koch Media would allocate it about € 50 million for the development and publication of PAYDAY 3.
