Former id Software director Tim Willits has found a new job. He was hired by Saber Interactive, partly based in Russia.
Since August 1, Willits has held the position of Chief creative Director in it. He himself admitted that he was most attracted by the possibility of changing the genre. At id Software, he dealt exclusively with first-person shooters, according to PC Gamer.
In games like Quake or Doom, everything has to be verified to the microsecond. In the past, I didn't create the simplest games, but I learned how to involve people in them. And now I see a lot of similarities (between old and future projects). Even in World War Z there are many similar mechanics. But I really believe that I can introduce more intense gameplay even in games of other genres.

According to him, he oversaw the expansion of Saber Interactive (she worked on Quake Champions with id Software). Willits is sure that he chose the best moment to join another studio. Now he wants to work on “exciting things for him.”
The flexibility of small teams and the speed of their tasks cannot be overestimated. I'm not saying Bethesda is bad; I love them. But working in a small team is interesting and exciting. We'll grab a good idea right away. And if it doesn't work, then we'll quickly replay everything.

Willits spent about 24 years at id Software. He announced his intention to leave the studio back in July, but he revealed his new place of work only now.
Saber’s latest game, World War Z, has become a commercial success for publisher Focus Home Interactive. This zombie third-person shooter accounted for almost half of the publisher’s revenue for the fiscal quarter. By the end of June, the game had sold 2 million copies.
