In June, the WN Dev Contest game project competition ended. More than 150 developers from 49 countries took part in it. We tell you how the contest went and who won.

The WN Dev Contest was held for the second time. It was first held a year earlier as a separate online event. This time the competition became part of the official program of the Istanbul session of the WN Conference.

The contest had three main nominations.

Grand Prix

The winner was determined by the jury, whose participants gave each project from one to three points. The award — $5 thousand — was given to the project with the highest number of points.

This year, the isometric bagel Dino Path Trail received the Grand Prix. The game has a unique setting in which cowboys side by side with dinosaurs. Its developer is the Italian Void Pointer team.

Also worth mentioning:

  • Strayed Lights, a colorful third-person action game, reminiscent of the style of the Darksiders trilogy. The French indie studio Embers is engaged in the development;

  • The Airship Academy project from the Thai Revolution Industry is interesting in terms of mechanics. The game stands out with gorgeous art, giant dialogues and a complex combat system;

  • minimalistic children’s platformer Lost Twins 2 from the Pakistani Playdew, which catches with a cute atmosphere and the need to rebuild the level so that the main characters can pass it.

Sponsorship nominations

There were two of them. By the number of key sponsors. Within each of them, the corresponding sponsor chose the product closest to him.

Selection of the general partner of the competition — Xsolla

The service company Xsolla liked the VR project Drunk or Dead 2, a continuation of the trash entertainment of the same name about fighting zombies and drinking. The project is being developed by the St. Petersburg 4 I Lab and should be released next year.

The project received $5 thousand in cash, Xsolla services at a price of $ 3 thousand, as well as an investment offer (the sponsor is ready to invest up to 10% of its budget in the game, provided that the project has another investor).

Xsolla also highlighted two additional projects — the already mentioned Airship Academy and a VR title about Black Trail cowboys from Red Horizon. Packages of free Xsolla services were allocated to them as an incentive prize.

Choosing a partner of the Belka Games competition

The developer of casual games gave a check for $ 5 thousand to the St. Petersburg indie team Goodwin Games, which has been creating an arthouse adventure Selfloss for the past few years.
