In search of investments for the game Lordmancer II Active Games company paid attention to blockchain technology. By introducing cryptocurrencies into the game, the company hopes to earn. We asked Anton Telitsyn, the company’s CEO, how this technology would work in the game.
Lordmancer II is an MMORPG for mobile devices and social networks. The gameplay of the game resembles King’s Bounty from Katauri. There is a hero who moves around the map with monsters and other players. Battles – one-on-one Heroes of Might & Magic.
The game is a continuation of the 2008 project of the same name, which was a java game.
Alexander Semenov, Senior Editor App2Top.ru : Before we talk about the technology itself and its implementation, please explain why you turned to non-standard monetization models at all?
Anton TelitsynAnton Telitsyn, CEO of Active Games: There are two reasons for this.
In the modern world, the only chance for a small indie studio to succeed is to find its niche. Lordmancer is a great game, we love it very much and believe in its success. But what can distinguish our game in comparison with others, for the development of which much more resources have been spent?
It turns out that you want to attract attention to yourself and find a niche. And what is the second reason?
Telitsyn: Finding investments for the development of the project is also the pain of all indie developers. Therefore, when we saw what opportunities cryptocurrencies offer us, we decided to take this chance.
This was sorted out. Let’s go directly to the topic of cryptocurrencies and blockchain. But in the beginning, let’s tell you for those who don’t know what it is at all?
Telitsyn: Blockchain is a technology for building a database that ensures that records cannot be changed. When you write something to the blockchain, it is no longer possible to fake or “forget” this data. The fact is that data is stored simultaneously on all nodes of the network: to erase or change them, you need to access most of the nodes.
All cryptocurrencies are built on this technology. There is no single center that can issue more money. This is what everything is built on. People do not want to depend on the Central Bank of the Russian Federation or the US Federal Reserve.
How will the technology work within the game?
Telitsyn: In the game, it will be possible to trade between players for Lord Coin. From the player’s point of view, Lord Coin will look like another ordinary game resource. But from the point of view of implementation, Lord Coin is a separate cryptocurrency built on the basis of the Ethereum blockchain network.
During the ICO (crowdfunding campaign), we issue exactly 20 million Lord Coin tokens, and the Ethereum network guarantees that we cannot issue more. That is, after the release of Lord Coin, it is no longer controlled even by us, the developers. This is what gives them real value.
There are two currencies in the game – gold and crystals. Will they correlate with Lord Coin?
Telitsyn: Gold is a common game currency, “soft currency” as the developers say. Crystals are a “hard currency” that can only be bought with real money. The use of crystals in general is no different from using it in other games: buying various boosts, speeding up pumping, etc.
The Lord Coin currency will mainly be used for in-game trading between players. The idea here is that Lord Coin can be taken out of the game by selling on a crypto exchange for another crypto currency.
Will the player be able to earn in the game Lord Coin? How difficult will it be?
Telitsyn: The player will be able to find rare items and resources in the game and sell them on the open market to other players for Lord Coin.
Will the game itself offer to buy things for Lord Coin, or will all interaction take place exclusively between players?
Telitsyn: Our goal is to ensure that trading between players takes place for Lord Coin. But some part of the purchases will be at the game itself (especially at the beginning, when the items will need to be released to the market).
For example, we have an idea to sell players personal islands for Lord Coin. For the first time, the island will be sold to someone on behalf of the game, but then the players themselves will set the price and resell it.
Will the prices of items in Lord Coin be formed by the market? How will developers be able to influence them?
Telitsyn: Developers – nothing . Only the market.
Will everything happen within the framework of the game interface, or will it be necessary to go to a separate site, somehow turn it around within it?
Telitsyn: Most likely, we will have to take trading for Lord Coin out of the game itself due to Apple’s requirements.
What is the rate of Lord Coin?
Telitsyn: During the ICO, we sell Lord Coin at a price of $0.125 per piece. But in the future, the Lord Coin rate will be determined only by the market. If the game is popular, the cost will grow.
Okay, thanks for the interview.
The trading scheme between the players will look like this:
- Player 1 farms a sword in the game.Player 2 buys 10 Lord Coin.
- Then there is an exchange between them.
- Player 1 sells the sword, and Player 2 spends 10 Lord Coin on it.From the deal, Player 1 gets 8 Lord Coin.
- At the same time, 1 Lord Coin is burned, which accumulates a constant demand for Lord Coin and increases the cost, and another 1 Lord Coin goes to the game fund.If you are interested in this topic, leave comments under the publication.
