GSC Game World has announced a collaboration with the DMarket platform to create its own metaverse. In the upcoming shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl, NFTs will appear, and token holders will be able to become NPCs inside the game itself. The project was named S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Metaverse.

The studio notes that with the help of blockchain technologies, players “will be able to own part of the game itself.”

Before the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, users will have a chance to purchase special NFTs. Each owner will become a highly detailed “meta-human” inside the game. At the same time, the technology that GSC uses to create models differs from the MetaHuman Creator tool developed by Epic Games.

The sale of unique tokens will take place in the auction format. The first one will take place in January 2022 on the DMarket NFT platform. At the same time, users will be able to exchange them immediately before the release of the game.

“The idea of such NFTs is to give owners the opportunity to recreate their identity as one of the NPCs. A person will need to come to our studio for a detailed scan procedure. After that, we will have everything necessary for him to appear in the game world as one of the characters,” said Evgeny Grigorovich, CEO of GSC Game World, to The Verge.

In addition, the Ukrainian studio plans to add other NFTs to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. What exactly these items will be is not specified. However, GSC emphasizes that these tokens will not affect the gameplay in any way and will not give their owners any advantages.

At the same time, it is still unclear what exactly will turn S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 into a full-fledged metaverse (you can read more about the definitions of this term here), and not just a game with the presence of NFT.

GSC Game World is far from the first developer to announce its ambitions in the field of NFT. Last week, Ubisoft introduced the Quartz platform, which will sell unique digital items for the company’s games. However, the community reacted negatively to the announcement, putting the video over 30 thousand dislikes.

MYTONA also launched its metaverse project the other day. Inside the social sandbox, users will be able to create worlds and communicate with each other. Last weekend, the iconic developer Peter Molyneux presented his own blockchain game. Just a few days after the announcement, users bought $53 million worth of NFT land.

Robert Bagratuni, head of Mundfish, as part of summing up the results of the year at App2Top.ru He hinted that in the future the studio may also enter the territory of NFT. Answering questions about the company’s plans for the next year, he noted that the industry has yet to see “those who will have time to jump on these trends and lead them, thanks to verified tactical and strategic steps.”
