Epic Games, with the participation of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), is going to create a game development cluster in Vladivostok.
This is reported by Fund for the Development of the Far East* (FRDV), summing up the results of the MeetUp-2019 IT conference, held on October 4-5.
* A non-public company with state participation. Founded in 2011 by Russian President Vladimir Putin to support infrastructure projects in the Far East.
At the event
Epic Games together with representatives of the University and the Foundation “discussed the prospects for creating a future ecosystem of the gaming industry on the Russian Island **“.
** Russian Island is an uninhabited, industrial—deprived area 800 meters by water from Vladivostok. In 2018, the Federation Council of Russia adopted a law on the creation of offshore territories with special financial conditions on the island.
At the Epic Games conference, the University and the University agreed to attract existing and new teams to the region (here, most likely, not the entire Primorsky Territory, but Vladivostok and its district).
The Fund’s role in the negotiations is not completely clear. However, its manager noted that the FRDV will be ready to invest in the residents of the cluster.
We expect that many of the future residents will grow up to the stage that allows them to invest in the funds of the Far Eastern High Technology Fund and the venture fund being formed.
Managing Director of FRDV
Details of the agreements are still unknown.
