VG Insights has added two new analytical tools to its platform. With their help, you can see all developers and publishers on Steam, as well as track their estimated revenue, genre preferences and much more.

In fact, these tools look like two large databases — one for publishers and the other for developers. They work almost the same and are distributed for free.

Both tools collect information about specialization (AAA, AA, or indie games), the number of titles published/developed, how much the company has earned, how much one game brings it on average, the percentage of games developed on its own, the percentage of indie releases and what genres it specializes in.

For example, according to the database, Ubisoft is now the highest-grossing publisher on Steam. He earned $3.1 billion. The company published the first game in the store on May 8, 2001, and on average each title brought her $ 2.5 million. Basically, Ubisoft released AAA games (in 35% of cases, action games), but it didn’t work out with indie — the company had only 5% of indie releases.

As VG Insights points out, the tools now work with 80% accuracy. But we must understand that they are at an early stage and may be mistaken.

For example, while they do not take into account discounts, refunds and in-game purchases in the calculations.

Also, the same companies may appear in databases several times, because sometimes some publishers and developers write their names differently on Steam. BANDAI NAMCO appeared in the store under the names BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc. And Ubisoft can mark which particular office made the game: Ubisoft Montreal or Ubisoft Paris. In the future, VG Insights plans to fix this and collect all the information about the company in one place.
