Last year, the Russian video game market earned $1.9 billion. At the same time, the film industry as a whole collected $0.7 billion.

This is reported in its latest report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

By video game market revenue, analysts mean “consumer spending on video game purchases and related services (not including sales of video game equipment or devices).”

As for the film distribution, it “includes income from the sale of tickets in cinemas and income from advertising shown before the start of the screening of films.”

PwC also notes that the domestic video game market still bypasses the following segments of the entertainment and media market in Russia:

  • pay TV market ($1.5 billion);
  • press market ($1.3 billion);
  • book publishing market ($1.2 billion);
  • outdoor advertising market ($0.6 billion);
  • music market ($0.6 billion).

The video game market turned out to be smaller than only two segments: the Internet advertising market ($3 billion) and the television advertising market ($2.9 billion).
