Genshin Impact has become one of the largest launches in the history of mobile games. In its first month, the title raised $245 million. This is more than it was at the start of Fortnite, Lineage 2: Revolution and Fire Emblem Heroes.

Sensor Tower reports this in its report. He also notes that the only mobile title that earned more in the premiere month (or, to be more precise, in the first 30 days) is Pokémon GO, which collected $ 283 million.

From September 28 to October 27, Genshin Impact also turned out to be the highest-grossing mobile game in the world (and this is excluding Chinese Android stores). In terms of revenue, the game has overtaken such blockbusters as Honor of Kings ($216 million) and PUBG Mobile ($195 million).

Other facts from the Sensor Tower report:

  • most of the revenue was generated by Chinese gamers — $82 million (33.5% of total revenue). Statistics for the country only take into account purchases through the App Store;
  • Japan ($59 million) and the USA ($45 million) also entered the top three in terms of player spending on the title miHoYo;
  • in the States, no mobile role-playing game has ever earned more at the start;
  • in general, the App Store is responsible for most of the collected revenue. It accounted for about 58% of Genshin Impact’s revenue ($144 million).

Genshin Impact is a great example of how Chinese developers succeed in the West by focusing on high production values, popular game mechanics and deep progression. The game feels like a console game and at the same time is a free-play gacha title. The global success of Genshin Impact reflects the evolution of Chinese game development: from outsourcing 15 years ago to the full-fledged creation of games that are interesting both to the domestic market and to the whole world.
