Sensor Tower summed up the results of 2020 for mobile games. The leader in terms of revenue was PUBG Mobile, which, together with its Chinese version of Game For Peace, raised about $ 2.6 billion.

This and not only analysts told in a new report. We have chosen the main thing:

  • 2020 turned out to be a record year for the billionaire games. This time there were five titles with revenue of over a billion dollars in the App Store and Google Play at once. For comparison, in 2019 and 2018, only three games managed to do this;
  • the most profitable game of this year was PUBG Mobile, with its revenue of $2.6 billion, which is 64.3% more than it was in 2019;
  • Honor of Kings was a little behind, whose revenues grew by 42.8% in annual terms and almost reached $2.5 billion.;
  • Pokémon GO took the third place in the box office: revenue — $ 1.2 billion, annual growth — 31.5%. This is the highest revenue in the history of the game;
  • on the fourth line is Coin Master, which earned $ 1.1 billion in 2020 — twice as much as a year ago;
  • Completing the top five is Roblox, which doubled its revenue last year to $1.1 billion.;
  • separately, analysts singled out Monster Strike. So far, the game has generated only $958 million, but for the remaining time until the end of the year, it can still collect the missing $ 42 million.

Sensor Tower emphasizes that the great success of these games is mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the lockdown, people were forced to stay at home, which forced them to spend more in games. Already, the mobile segment has earned 19.5% more than a year ago — $75.4 billion. Although 2021 is unlikely to bring developers the same high revenues, some trends will continue, and several more billionaire games may appear in the world, analysts conclude.
