Omdia analysts spoke about the situation in the cloud gaming market. According to their data, in 2021 its turnover immediately tripled to $3.7 billion. Not least thanks to the official appearance of Xbox Cloud Gaming on consoles.
For comparison: in 2020, the cloud gaming market earned about $ 1.38 billion. In the future, analysts expect only slightly less rapid growth.
According to Omdia’s forecast, by the end of 2022, the market turnover will reach $5.2 billion. Moreover, if now almost three quarters of the total revenue is accounted for by PlayStation Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming, then in the coming years their share will decrease due to the development of competing services.
In 2026, the revenue of the cloud gaming market will be $11.9 billion.
Although users have started spending more on cloud games, Omdia doubts that this can significantly harm “standard” games for PCs and consoles. According to analysts, cloud services are likely to become an addition to the more familiar gaming.
It should be noted that last year not only the turnover, but also the audience of cloud games increased. According to Omdia estimates, 16.4 million people used the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which includes Xbox Cloud Gaming, at the end of 2021. The PlayStation Now audience was 4.4 million people.
