Expected news from data.ai (formerly App Annie). The weekly revenue of mobile games in Eastern Europe has significantly decreased in recent months — from $50 million to $30 million. Of course, because of Russia.
The main reason is the suspension of payments by Apple and Google in our country. It led to a severe decrease in local revenue, and then to a decrease in “Russia’s regional share in the structure of consumer spending on mobile games.”
How much exactly mobile games earned on the Russian market in the week before February, and how much in April, analysts do not specify in the text of the study. However, starting from the graphs given in the material, we can assume that:
- In February, Russian users left $20 million in mobile games every week;
- In April, their weekly spending dropped to $3 million.
Considering that in early May Apple blocked in Russia the ability to replenish iOS wallets from mobile accounts, by now, most likely, gaming revenue has fallen to zero.
Until February, Russia was not only responsible for half of the region’s revenue, but was also its main growth driver.
By the way, regional downloads have also dropped. At the beginning of February, residents of Eastern Europe carried out about 110 million downloads of mobile games every week (Russia accounted for about 60 million). Now we are talking about the figure of 90 million installations. However, more of them still fall on Russia.
