In January last year, Cookie Run: Kingdom, a battler from Devsisters based on the popular IP in South Korea, was released. GameLook talked about the financial achievements of the project.
Cookie Run: Kingdom
Cookie Run: Kingdom has become one of the most downloaded games in its native region.
At the end of last year, it reached the top of the downloads chart in South Korea, collecting 5 million installations. The local revenue of the game for 2021 was $ 100 million.
Our colleagues from GameLook say that the project is somewhat unique. Previously, the Cookie Run series of games had exclusively regional success. However, Cookie Run: Kingdom is a different case.
The game is in great demand abroad as well. Its total downloads have reached 40 million, and MAU ranges around 7-8 million. As for global revenue, it amounted to $250 million in 2021.
For reference, the entire annual revenue of Devsisters, according to the company’s annual report, is $296 million ($39.8 million of which is net profit). In other words, now the game is the main asset of Devsisters.
GameLook believes that the game managed to achieve similar results thanks to a competent marketing campaign aimed at the global market. Developers successfully attract an audience in new markets for themselves, including through working with well-known dubbing actors and letsplayers.
Dynamics of downloads with promotion stages
As a result, of the $21 million earned by the game in December last year, 60% fell on Europe and the United States, where Cookie Run had almost never been heard of before.
Cookie Run: Kingdom is a variation on the theme of classic mobile battlers in the spirit of Heroes Charge. It is distinguished from other titles by a more dynamic combat system and the presence of a construction component.
