At the moment when Samsung introduced its virtual reality helmet, created in conjunction with Oculus and supporting work with the Galaxy Note 4, it became clear that this niche, at least, would hook the mobile industry. The news about the expansion of the strategic partnership between Unity and Oculus only strengthens our suspicions.

The first step in the framework of the “strengthened” cooperation will be the release of an add-on for Unity Engine, which will allow the development of games that support Oculus Rift and, most likely, Gear VR with Crescent Bay.

The addon includes:

  • optimization for stereoscopic images;
  • support for three-dimensional sound, deeper integration in the Unity editor;
  • inclusion of Oculus Rift in the Unity development and debugging complex;
  • integration of Oculus-specific APIs within Unity;
  • direct publishing to the Oculus platform.

The add-on will be available to all users of the engine (regardless of whether they use its paid or free version).

By the way, according to the official press release of Unity and Oculus, it became known that the Oculus developer community already has, to put it mildly, an immodest figure of 3.3 million people.
