Facebook wants to motivate developers and creators to create content for the Horizon Worlds social VR platform, which is currently in beta testing. To do this, the company launched its own fund.

The official Facebook blog says that the foundation’s goal is to expand its own community of authors and developers.

Next year, the fund will distribute funds in three directions:

  • Community Competitions: A series of competitions to create worlds in Horizon. The winners of each contest will receive $ 10 thousand;Creator Accelerator Program: A program in which Facebook is ready to teach students how to use VR tools and create mini-games.
  • The new course stream will start in early 2022;Funding For Developers: an investment direction for developers and studios interested in creating projects for Horizon Worlds.
  • According to the media, the active promotion of Horizon Worlds is dictated by Mark Zuckerberg’s desire to make a metaverse company out of Facebook:

“Our main goal (…) – to realize the idea of a metaverse.”

Horizon Worlds is a VR sandbox game launched in beta testing in August 2020. In it, users can build their own worlds, develop mini-games, chat, watch movies together and much more. It is still unknown how long the testing of the project will last.
