Japanese studio Gotcha Gotcha Games has announced RPG Maker Unite, an updated toolkit for creating role-playing games. One of the main advantages of the new version is native support for mobile platforms.RPG Maker Unite is based on Unity.

Among the main features of the toolkit, developers call:

  • creating games and systems for them without programming knowledge;the presence of a library of assets — from sounds and characters to biomes and enemy models;
  • advanced map editor with support for pre-rendered backgrounds;
  • a universal database that includes character characteristics and classes, as well as items and abilities;
  • support for mobile devices, which will allow developers to reach an additional audience on iOS and Android.
  • In honor of the announcement of Gotcha, Gotcha Games also launched a festival of RPG Maker games on Steam.

It will last until February 21. As part of the sale, both previous versions of the toolkit and games made with RPG Maker will be available.

RPG Maker is a series of software originally designed to create two—dimensional JRPGs. Later, visual novels, action games and games of other genres were also made with the help of the toolkit. Among the most notable projects are LISA: The Painful, OneShot, To The Moon and Finding Paradise.

RPG Maker Unite will be released in 2022 on Steam and Unity Asset Store. The new version of the constructor will support Japanese and English.
