Despite the high sales of Android smartphones, as well as the rapid growth of downloads, the share of applications for this platform, compared to iOS, is falling from quarter to quarter.

According to Apple, the number of downloads from the App Store has exceeded 18 billion.

Microsoft Corporation plans to expand the audience of its mobile platform at the expense of Android and iOS users. The Internet demo version of Windows Phone 7 is used as a promotion tool.

According to the estimates of the analytical company Piper Jaffray, 90% of all money spent on applications for mobile devices is accounted for by Apple’s iOS; the Android Market has earned only 7% of the money collected in the App Store over the entire period of its existence. This directly affects the income of developers.

Flurry has presented new data on the iPhone and iPad audience based on the analysis of users of top apps in the App Store.

According to the mobile advertising network InMobi, which conducted a study of the mobile market in the third quarter of 2011, the iPhone 4 remains the most common device in Europe with a share of 7.2%. This is followed by Samsung GT-i9000 (4.9%) and HTC Desire S (3.1%).

Sales of Android phones in the United States increased by 5.4% and by the end of July amounted to 41.8%. 

Samsung Galaxy Tab, HP TouchPad, not being a serious threat individually, have jointly grabbed 20% of Apple’s market share over the past 12 months, according to ABI Research.
