During the last week of 2011, iOS and Android users made a record number of downloads.

The release of the iPhone 4S significantly affected the number of downloads of free software from the App Store.

On one day alone – December 25, 2011 – 6.8 million smartphones were activated, while half of the activations were on Android. Microsoft Corporation, in turn, boasted of the number of applications in the Windows Phone Market.

The number of smartphones used by users may increase from the current 262 million to 800 million. At least, such figures were shared with the public by Flurry. The main driver of growth is the Chinese market; the Russian market may also increase significantly.
